It’s been a year since the Erasmus+ project KA2 “Breaking Digital Barriers: Building Literacy for Elderly” coordinated by the institution Burdur Huzur Evi Yaptirma ve Yardimlasma Dernegi (Turkey) started, and we can now present you the first materials.

The elderly often feel excluded from society, or in other words, they feel “disconnected”.  Nowadays, we live in an era of technology of the information and knowledge  and in our daily life, we carry out most of our tasks and duties in an online way. For this reason, we think that it is important to provide this group of society, which is becoming larger, with technological skills and basic knowledge. This project attempts to integrate the elderly in the society, avoiding this way their exclusion at the same time they are improving their adaptation to the new era. We can achieve that via the tasks digitalization. Thus, we have created video tutorials about the following topics:

  • How to access the information and news in the net.

  • How to use the main contemporary social networks: Facebook, Instagram

  • How to arrange a medical appointment online.
  • How to  access your bank accounts online and to transact business or other economic transactions
  • How to buy clothes, food or other products in Internet comprar ropa, comida u otros productos en Internet.

Due to the fact that digital literacy is nowadays a human right stated by the European Union, the project is addressed to provide people over 60 with digital skills and present new learning strategies. As elderly usually have problems to reach news, information about health, online shopping, and the ability to be in contact with long-distance friends and family. And at the end of the project, they will learn how to use the computer to things like bank transactions, checking the weather or the news, arrange a medical appointment as well as to use apps and social networks.
